Shevardinsky redoubt on the Borodino field in Central Russia. Russian rearguard under the command of Lieutenant-General Konovnitsyn, located at the Kolotsky monastery 8 km to the West of the location of the main forces, was attacked by the enemy`s vanguard on the eve of the main battle of the Russian and French Napoleonic troops at Borodino. A stubborn battle ensued, lasting several hours. After the news of the enemy`s detour was received, Konovnitsyn withdrew his troops across the Kolocha river and joined the corps in position near the village of Shevardino. Now shevardinsky redoubt is one of the main memorial sites of Borodino field.
