The Sacred Cenote at Chichen Itza is also known as the well of sacrifice. Pre-Columbian Maya sacrificed objects and human beings into the cenote as a form of worship to the Maya rain god Chaac. In Spanish it is called Cenote Sagrado. Chichen Itza is a pre-Columbian Maya archaeological site in the northern Yucatán Peninsula. |
