Multiple myeloma (plasma cell myeloma) is a blood cancer of the plasma cells in the bone marrow, often causing bone pain, fatigue, high calcium levels, and kidney failure. It occurs when abnormal plasma cells multiply, crowding out healthy blood cells and producing faulty proteins (M protein).
