Guatemala, Retalhuleu Department, El Triumfo Village: In this refugee camp for Ixil Indians, women with or without children are collectively washing clothes in running water basins. With this intensive housework, the Indian woman is busy daily. The Ixil are a Mayan people, recognizable for their special, colorful, traditional costume. Partly as a result, they were most affected during the Guatemalan civil war.
