Pictured is a a group of sculptures depicting the Lamentation of the Dead Christ in a wall niche in the parish Church of Saint George in Varenna. Mary Magdane is holding his feet as he is in the arms of Nicodemus and the Virgin Mary is crouched with her hands in prayerful position. Mary of Clopas, the sister of the mother of Jesus is holding his right arm. Two others are at the ends. The Church was built from 1250 to 1313. Varenna is on Lake Como in the Province of Lecco in the Italian region of Lombardy.
