The historical town of Leeuwarden is located in the north of Holland, in the province of Friesland. In the south of the old town, star-shaped and enclosed by a ring of canals, is the Wirdumerdijk, a busy shopping street. At the north end of the street, to the left, is the Waagplein, a spacious square with a statue of a Frisian horse.
