The bridge was not for rail traffic so investors deemed it too risky. The government would not pay for it either. Three citizens formed a toll company and paid for the bridge, a huge undertaking both financially and logistically due to the shifting river bed. They successfully completed the project and on the bridge they hung a sign, `You Said We Couldn`t Do It, But We Did`.
