The Harmsworth Encyclopaedia 1930s / 1940s. Social history. Vintage black and white photo of Brighton from the West Pier 1900s. Brighton is a seaside resort in the county of East Sussex. It is a constituent part of the city of Brighton and Hove, created from the formerly separate towns of Brighton and Hove. Brighton Pier or the Palace Pier[a] is a Grade II* listed pleasure pier in Brighton. Opening in 1899, it was the third pier to be constructed in Brighton after the Royal Suspension Chain Pier and the West Pier, but is now the only one still in operation. It is managed and operated by the Eclectic Bar Group. 1900s British holiday resort, families on pier on holiday.
