Orsova is a port city on the Danube river in southwestern Romania's Mehedinti County. It is one of four localities in the Banat historical region situated just above the Iron Gates where the Cerna River meets the Danube. The locality was the site of a Roman port in Dacia Malvensis, and the site of the Roman city and fort of Dierna. A wharf is a place arranged in a port or on the shore of a waterway, where small ships or boats can dock and park for the purpose of embarking and disembarking passengers. A boat moored and used for a wharf at a bank of a river or in a like situation where the height of the water is so variable that a fixed wharf is impracticable.
