This is a short armed species with a highly variable colour pattern. There are beautiful stripes on the back of the body. There is a bluish tinge to the eye socket which is common. Small and constantly moving papillae are also present over the body. This species is found in the Southwestern Pacific region and in coastal waters of eastern Australia from the Gulf of Carpentaria to Sydney.
