On February 15, 1996, the Sea Empress oil tanker was entering the mouth of the Cleddau Estuary on her way to Milford Haven. She hit rocks that damaged the hull, releasing her load of crude oil, causing extreme damage to the environment, polluting about 80 miles of coastline, and killing and damaging wildlife. Since that time sufficient tugs are always on duty to help and protect both very large crude carriers and LNG carriers. Pictured here are two such tugs.
