Trowlesworthy Warren occupies 200 hectares, bounded by River Plym, Spanish Lake and Blacka Brook. It was believed to be the earliest documented warren on Dartmoor, but this has been queried by Roberston (1991). The land was granted to Sampson de Traylesworthie by Baldwin de Riparis at least as early as the thiteenth century, if not the twelfth century AD
