Trakai is a city in the southeastern part of Lithuania, located west of the country`s capital, the city of Vilnius. One of the main attractions of the city is the Island Castle of the XIV century. This fortress rises in the middle of the Trakai Historical National Park in the center of Lake Galve. The castle used to be the residence of the Lithuanian princes, but now it houses the Historical Museum, where archaeological finds, coins and handicrafts are stored. On the southern shore of the lake, the stone ruins of the Peninsular Castle have been preserved.
