| A half-painted traditional boat from Lanyu. The Tao are the native people in Lanyu / Orchid island. Living in a small island sorrounded by the Pacific ocean, they relied strongly on the sea for food, so fisheries are central to Tao culture. These traditional wooden fishing boats are nowadays mostly used for ceremonial purposes. Lanyu is a very small tropical island of volcanic origin. |
