The forerunner to the establishment of Ar-Raniry State Islamic University began with the establishment of the Syari& x27;ah Faculty in 1960 and the Tarbiyah Faculty in 1962 which were branches of IAIN Sunan Kalidjaga Yogyakarta. Apart from that, the Ushuluddin Faculty was also established which became a private Faculty in Banda Aceh. After being a branch of IAIN Yogyakarta for many years, these faculties were then based on IAIN Syarif Hidayatullah for a period of 6 months.
