The Verde Canyon Railroad was opened in 1912. It linked the copper smelter at Clarkdale, Arizona and the copper mines at Jerome to the the Santa Fe Railway. Today its a tourist attraction. The main depot is in Clarkville (near Sedona). The train meanders through the Verde Canyon, closely following the river. The ride takes about 4 hours.
