Pictured is a Texas Trail of Fame star honoring James Beckwourth in the Fort Worth Stockyards in Texas. He was born to an African American slave mother and an English nobleman. He became a mountain man, fur trader, Chief of the Crow Nation of Indians, and gold miner. The Texas Trail of Fame was established in 1997 to honor those who have made a significant contribution to our Western way of life. Throughout the walkways of the Fort Worth National Historic District, bronze inlaid markers have been placed in honor of their achievements.
