| Taxis of Hong Kong provide a taxi system. Although a few taxis are independently owned and operated, the vast majority are owned by 17 independent taxi companies that rent out taxis on a shift basis to 40,000 self-employed drivers. The red taxis have the highest fares among all, and serve all areas of New Territories, Kowloon and Hong Kong Island. They may also run the north of Lantau Island but not permitted to run Discovery Bay and the part south to Shek Mun Gap. |
