| The new Sternbrucke Bridge over the Elbe in the southern part of Magdeburg, opened in 2005, at river kilometer 325.10 connects the old town with the Elbe island of Rotehorn and the Rotehorn Park located there. It is the successor of the previous bridge stemming from the early 20th century, which had been detonated on April 12, 1945 by the Wehrmacht to prevent US Army troops from forging ahead to the Eastern river bank.
