We know it as septicweed, coffee senna, coffeeweed, piss-a-bed, Mogdad coffee, negro-coffee, senna coffee, Stephanie coffee, stinkingweed or styptic weed.nThe plant is called bana chakunda in Odisha, India. It is called thulo tapre in Nepal.nCoffee senna has been used for diuretic, laxative, blood purifier, antibacterial, and antifungal properties, as well as for treatment of hemorrhoids, gout, rheumatism, diabetes, whooping cough, convulsions, heart disease, snakebite, asthma, fever, and the flu.nThe species was formerly placed in the genus Cassia.nThe plant is reported to be poisonous to cattle, because it contains a known toxic derivative of anthraquinone called emodin. and the seeds contain chrysarobin 1,8-dihydroxy-3-methyl-9-anthrone and N-methylmorpholine.nSenna can cause some side effects including stomach discomfort, cramps, and diarrhea. Senna is POSSIBLY UNSAFE when taken by mouth long-term or in high doses. Don`t use senna for more than two weeks. Longer use can cause the bowels to stop functioning normally and might cause dependence on laxatives.
