A large animal, with a shell up to 35 cm long, weighing up to 14 kg. Some individuals weigh up to 30 kg.The alligator snapping turtle has a large head with bulging eyes, a large mouth with sharp jaws, and powerful clawed paws. The animal is known for its aggressiveness - when caught, the turtle actively defends itself, throwing its head far out on its long neck and biting. It lives in a variety of reservoirs, rivers, ponds, lakes, choosing places with a muddy bottom, where it can easily burrow. In winter, turtles burrow into the silt at the bottom of the reservoir and hibernate. In the northern regions, this hibernation lasts from October to May. The alligator snapping turtles' resistance to cold is curious.
