Smooth muscle cells are spindle-shaped and lack the striations (stripes) seen in skeletal muscle cells. They are shorter than skeletal muscle cells and have a single nucleus. Smooth muscle is found in the walls of various organs and structures throughout the body, including blood vessels, the digestive tract, respiratory passages, urinary bladder, reproductive organs, and the iris of the eye.
