The bronze statue of Freddie Mercury, frontman of rock band Queen, stands in the Place du Marché in Montreux, overlooking Lac Léman and the Swiss Alps. Erected in 1996, it was created by Czech sculptor, Irena Sedlecká. Freddie Mercury was born Farrokh Bulsara in Stone Town on the island of Zanzibar, Tanzania on 5th September 1946; he died on 24th November 1991 in Kensington, London.
