The first, Fuchsia triphylla, known to Europeans was discovered on the Caribbean island of Hispaniola about 1696ââ¬â1697 by the French Minim monk and botanist, Charles Plumier, during his third expedition to the Greater Antilles. Fuchsias will grow perfectly well in either full sun or partial shade, with shelter from cold winds. They will appreciate some shade at the hottest part of the day during very hot summer days.
