Dating back to 1245, Mainberg Castle is certainly the oldest castle of Schonungen. The castle has had several owners over the years. In 1305, it belonged to the Counts of Henneberg-Schleusingen. After the Peasant War, it became the office of Bishop of Wurzburg in 1542. It was also said to be owned by the Sachs family in 1932. Now privately owned, the castle serves as an idyllic venue for wine festivals and cultural celebrations. |
