Teide, or Mount Teide, (Spanish: El Teide, Pico del Teide) is a volcano on Tenerife in the Canary Islands. Its summit, 3,715 m is the highest point in the Canary Islands and the highest point above sea level in the islands of the Atlantic. The volcano and its surroundings make up Teide National Park, which has an area of 18,900 hectares and was named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2007. Teide Observatory, a major international astronomical observatory, is located on the slopes of the mountain. In addition, the volcano has become an establishing shot in films, television series and programs set on the island of Tenerife.
