The historic Sandy Creek Covered Bridge, built in 1872 In Jefferson County, Missouri, in its woodland setting on a bright summer day. It is one of only 4 covered bridges remaining in the state. The barn red siding of the bridge exterior contrasts with the green foliage of trees, shrubs, wildflowers, and grass surrounding the bridge. A curving, white rail fence with patches of gray from peeling paint and shadows leads up to the bridge entrance. Wild yellow sunflowers stand in the foreground behind the fence. The bridge was built on the Howe-truss design and some of its structure is visible in the bridge entrance. Many tourists and visitors come to enjoy the bridge and the park.
