Cartagena (исп. Cartagena) — the city in Spain, in autonomous community Murcia. The name happens from the ancient city of Carthage (Cartagena has been founded by Carthaginians, Romans called it "New Carthage"). The ancient Roman theater strikes with good safety and the impressive sizes – once was located with height about the 5-ny building on the stands with 14 thousand viewers. The theater has been found in 1988 during archaeological raskopkok on ruins of the Cartagena cathedral of Santa-Maria-la-Vyekha destroyed in the Spanish civil war in 1939. It has become clear that the Christian temple is built in the top part of theater, and at construction materials from an antique structure were used. Archeological excavations and restoration were carried out in 1988-2003. On January 21, 1999 the theater has been announced by a cultural monument. In 2008 the museum has been open.
