Ripon Obelisk, Ripon Market Square, North Yorkshire, England, UK. The obelisk was built in 1702 by John Aislabie of Studley Royal. The architect was Nicholas Hawksmoor. It was surmounted by a tall wrought iron weather-vane incorporating a representation or the Wakeman`s Horn. Eighty feet high. The wrought iron railings surrounding it were removed in 1781 and replaced with 4 smaller obelisks at the corners, which have also been removed since.
