The yellow Royal Air Force Seaking rescue helicopters are a familiar sight in the British mountains. Their main role is the rescue of military personnel, but provide helicopter rescue for civilians, which provides excellent training for the crews, as well as a valuable service to the public. These helicopters have been used for rescues at sea, in the mountains, helping flood victims and also for incidents such as motor accidents with a large number of injuries, as well as numerous other rescue situations. That is all about to stop with the controversial privatisation of the rescue helicopter service in The UK. The contract has been won by Bristow Helicopters using their Coastguard Helicopters, the Sikorsky S-92 and the Agusta Westland AW189. There has been a lot of press interest in this lately.
