The statue of lbn Qasi near Mertola Castle. Abu-l-Qasim Ahmad ibn al-Husayn ibn Qasi was governor of the Taifa of Mértola. He was a Sufi, a political leader of the opposition against the Almoravid dynasty in Al-Garb Al-Andalus. He was born in Silves and wrote a treatise, `the Removal of the Sandals`, a book which revolves around Ibn Qasi`s Philosophy, Sufism and history. lbn Qasi was assassinated in Silves in the year 1151.
