The two most important pyramids of Dahshur’s necropolis are the “Red Pyramid” and the “Bent Pyramid” or “Southern Shining Pyramid.” The Bent Pyramid was built of locally quarried limestone and had several design flaws which created a bend halfway up the pyramid. The Red Pyramid gets its name from the red shade of the stone. It was the first smooth-sided pyramid standing 101 meters tall and is considered the first “real” pyramid.
