Pula Arena in Istria, Croatia, one of the best preserved Roman amphitheatres. Dating from the 1st century CE and built during the reign of Emperor Vespasian, it is an ancient Roman elliptical amphitheatre constructed of local limestone ashlar masonry without mortar. The exterior of this iconic landmark features 2 tiers of arched openings or arcades, with an upper tier of rectangular windows.
