| Factory opened in 1844 to produce black gunpowder for use in quarries and blasting stones from fields. Buildings were built with thick walls and thin roofs to deflect blast upwards. Buildings spaced apart for the same reason. Stream called Cherrybrook. Closed 1897 with development of gelignite. |
