PHOENIX – With its recently announced $178 million dollar modernization project, the Phoenix Raceway Project Powered by DC Solar, Phoenix Raceway officially took the first steps in construction this weekend. Giving a nod to its beginnings with open-wheel racing, Phoenix International Raceway broke ground on the project as part of its second annual “Prix View” Testing event for the Verizon IndyCar Series. Featured guests included Helio Castroneves, driver of the No. 3 Chevrolet for Team Penske in the Verizon IndyCar Series. Helio took over the gigantic backhoe to raise the first bucket of dirt.
