What started out as just an idea when four people with different interests in fine books, wanted to have an exhibition of fine book printing in the San Francisco Panama-Pacific International Exhibition of 1915, they were informed it would be best if there was an organization to do it. Discussing it then further, they started The Book Club of California, but never did get to have the exhibition. Quietly tucked away on the fifth floor of an office building near Union Square, is still dedicated to fine and rare books and book printing, initially about just California, now Western themes in general.
