The Santos Basin is the largest offshore sedimentary basin in Brazil, with a total area of more than 350 thousand square kilometers that extends from Cabo Frio, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, to Florianópolis, in the state of Santa Catarina. The first investments in studies related to exploration and production in this basin are from the 1970s, and are still in operation today.
