A neurofibroma is a type of benign nerve sheath tumor originating from the cells that make up the nervous system's supportive tissue, called Schwann cells and fibroblasts. These tumors can develop anywhere in the body where nerve tissue is present, including the skin, peripheral nerves, and occasionally in deeper tissues.
