Nephila pilipes, also known as the golden orb-weaver, is a large spider species found primarily in tropical regions of Asia and the western Pacific. Females are significantly larger than males, with their body length reaching up to 30 millimeters, and they are known for weaving large, strong, golden-colored webs. These webs can span over a meter in diameter and are often built in forested areas or gardens. Nephila pilipes preys on a variety of insects, using its sticky web to trap them. Despite their intimidating size, these spiders are not dangerous to humans and rarely bite unless provoked.
