The broad Faxafoss waterfall is located in a large flat agricultural area where it is difficult to predict the occurrence of a waterfall. The Tungufljot River stretches approximately 300 feet (80 m) wide and has a gradient of 22 feet (7 m) with a fish ladder across it. Approximately 400 salmon spawn in this river each year. A second smaller channel branches off to the right of the river, creating an isolated section to the falls.
