There are two species of desert tortoises: Agassiz's desert tortoise (Gopherus agassizii) and Morafka's Desert Tortoise or the Sonoran Desert Tortoise (Gopherus morafkai). The tortoise pictured here is most likely Morafka's or the Sonoran Desert Tortoise.
