Minneriya National Park is home to the world's largest known gathering of Asian elephants. During the dry season from June to October, herds of up to 350 elephants can be seen congregating in the park's central clearing, known as the "Elephant Corridor." The elephants come to the park to drink from the Minneriya Tank, a large reservoir that is one of the few sources of water in the area during the dry season. They also come to graze on the lush grasses that grow around the tank
