| Although the Matterhorn (or Mount Cervino as know in Italy) is not the highest mountain in Switzerland, it is certainly the most imposing. At the border of Switzerland and Italy, its distinct pyramidal peak which reaches to 4478 m (14692 ft) has become one of Switzerland's national symbols. Shrouded in legend, it has climbed several lives and remains inaccessible to all but the most expert climbers. This landscape-oriented shot is taken from the Gronergrat observatory at the end of March 2007 in a clear day. |
