| The Mariposa Lily, Calochorta, is a perennial wildflower, native to western North America. It is a relative of the tulip and similarly, sprouts from bulbs. These bulbs are edible, either raw or boiled, and were widely used as a food source by Native Americans. They contributed to the survival of early Mormon settlers in Utah as well. Mariposa is Spanish for butterfly due to the flower's resemblance to the insect. |
