Guazhou County, [33] under the jurisdiction of Jiuquan City, Gansu Province, is located at the western end of the Hexi Corridor in Gansu Province, with an area of 24000 square kilometers and a general altitude of 1150-2000 meters. [14] At the end of 2024, the permanent population of Guazhou County was 132000. As of June 2023, Guazhou County has jurisdiction over 10 towns and 5 townships. [8]Guazhou County has a medium temperature arid climate with long sunshine hours, abundant light resources, low relative humidity, cold winters and hot summers, strong winds and abundant sand, and large temperature differences between day and night. [13] Guazhou County is located in the middle and lower reaches of the Shule River, with a terrain that is high from north to south and gradually slopes towards the central Shule River valley in the basin. There are three basic landform forms: mountainous areas, Gobi, and corridor alluvial plains. [1] Generally, the altitude ranges from 1150 to 2000 meters. [14] As early as the late Neolithic period 4000 years ago, there were ancestors living and reproducing in the area. In the fifth year of Tang Wude (622 AD), Guazhou was established. In the 24th year of the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty (1759), Anxi Prefecture was established. In the 39th year of the Qianlong reign (1774 AD), the prefecture was renamed Anxi Zhili Prefecture. In 1913, it was renamed Anxi County. In August 2006, the county was renamed Guazhou County.
