MOROCCO MAÃâLEM OMAR HAYAT Initiated into Gnaoua music by Mahmoud Guinea, MaÃÂ¢lem Omar Hayat created his own group in 1991. He is part of the new generation of maÃÂ¢lems who carry on the tradition while focusing on the stage arts. Omar Hayat has a style that is all his own, influenced by diverse musical genres with an emphasis on reggae. This unique artist has earned a loyal following on stage at the Gnaoua and World Music in Essaouira, as he has at other national and international festivals. Omar Hayat is also a master of fusion, a skill he has demonstrated many times in Essaouira. He transcended himself with Halla Kingzoo in 2011 and the Mikkel Nordso Band in 2015.
