King Penguin - (APTENODYTES PATAGONICUS) colony in Salisbury Plain a vast plain washed out by the Grace Glacier on South Georgia and South Georgia's largest elephant seal nursery. Salisbury Plain, a vast expanse of glacial outwash plains, 50km from the western extremity of the island. Formed by the retreat of the Grace Glacier, and now covering over 2km it is the largest area of level ground at South Georgia and the perfect spot for a huge king penguin rookery with an estimate of around 60´000 pairs. |
