JAPAN. Kyoto. Ginkaku-ji Temple, the Silver Pavilion. Built in 1482 by Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimasa, it remains unfinished. In tribute to his grandfather who had covered the Kinkaku-ji with gold leaf, Yoshimasa 1358-1408 wanted to cover his flag with silver. However, Onin`s war ruined his project. Deprived of its layer of metal, the temple shines with the patina of the years. |
