| Netherlands, Friesland Province, municipality Bildt: former Protestant Great Church, Grote Kerk or Jacobskerk which was built by the architect Thomas Adrianus Romein in 1843 in neoclassical architectural style in honor of the Apostle, Holy, St. James the Great or Greater. St. Jacobiparochie is an important place for pilgrims from North Frisia on their road to Santiago de Compostela. This historic building is a hall church with Doric column portico and pediment. The clock tower, belfry, with a square base has a circular lantern cupola with eight columns. This church is the beginning of the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela for people from northern Netherlands. |
