The Hippodrome of Constantinople was a circus that was the sporting and social centre of Constantinople, capital of the Byzantine Empire. Today it is a square named Sultanahmet Meydanı (Square) in the Turkish city of Istanbul, with a few fragments of the original structure surviving. German Fountain (Deutscher Brunnen) is a gift of the German Kaiser Wilhelm II, who visited Istanbul in 1898. Fountain made in Germany and unassembled brought and installed at the Hippodrome Square in 1900. The fountain is made in neo-Byzantine style with an octagon and decorated with golden mosaics inside. On the inside of the dome supported by columns, you can see the monogram of Sultan Abdul Hamid II and the initials of Kaiser Wilhelm II.
